Eastern to Hold 25th MLK Award Ceremony

Willimantic, CT (02/24/2020) — Eastern Connecticut State University will hold its 25th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards Ceremony on Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Paul E. Johnson Sr. Community Conference Room in the J. Eugene Smith Library. The ceremony will recognize three honorees who have demonstrated a commitment to Dr. King's values and beliefs.

Broken into three categories, the faculty/staff award will be given to AccessAbility Services Director Kristen Scavone; the student award will go to Health Sciences major Lacoy Brown '20; and the community award will go to JoAnn Price, co-founder and managing partner of Fairview Capital Partners.

Established in 1996, Eastern's MLK Awards honor people who demonstrate a devotion to cultural diversity, inclusion and civic engagement. The annual ceremony serves to remember the altruistic efforts of Dr. King, whose spirit, philosophy and teachings continue to inspire countless individuals today.

Past recipients include LaToya Smith '06 who is now an award-winning multimedia journalist and CEO of a New York-based marketing agency and Indira Petoskey, assistant dean of continuing education and enhanced learning at Eastern. Other past recipients include Alycia Bright-Holland, assistant professor of Theatre; Kemesha Wilmot, associate director of the Center for Community Engagement, and many more.
