Golfers go for the green to support Eastern students

Annual golf tournament raises funds for scholarships

Willimantic, CT (10/25/2020) — After 14 successful years at Lake of Isles, the annual Eastern Connecticut State University Golf Tournament moved to the beautiful Wethersfield Country Club on Oct. 6 under sunny skies.

Despite the uncertain times of COVID-19, 80 golfers participated in the tournament, sponsored by the ECSU Foundation, Inc. Net proceeds from the event go directly to student scholarships, while also supporting the Eastern Annual Fund and Department of Athletics.

Dinner sponsors included Barnes & Noble (Ally Hall), KeyBank (Luciano Verduro), and Presidio (Vinnie Graziano), while driving range sponsors included Kell-Strom Tool (Frank Kelly), WalMart (Roger Noll) and Windham Pepsi (Cliff McGlory).

"I am delighted that this event has generated $1,150,000 over the past 15 years," said Ken DeLisa, vice president for institutional advancement. "Assisting our students who demonstrate financial need is a top priority. The growth in scholarship giving at Eastern doesn't happen without the support of the individuals and businesses who play in this tournament each year and for that we are most grateful."
