Media Advisory: Lt. Governor to promote free tax services at Eastern

Press conference this Friday

Willimantic, CT (03/11/2026) — Eastern Connecticut State University will host a press conference on March 13 at 10 a.m. to highlight the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a free income-tax service run by Eastern students.

The event will feature Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Department of Revenue Services Deputy Commissioner John Biello, nonprofit leaders, and other dignitaries and community partners who support free tax preparation services for local residents.

Who:

VITA is a program of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that provides free basic tax return preparation to low- and moderate-income households. The VITA site in Willimantic - located at Windham Heights Learning Center on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am. to 3 p.m. - is staffed by a team of 18 accounting students from Eastern.

The Willimantic VITA program is a collaboration between Eastern's Small Business Resource Center, The Village, and United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.
