Theatre: Eastern to present 'Syzygy,' a collaborative celebration of the arts

An intersection of sound, movement, and visual art

by Tim Stevens

Willimantic, CT (11/04/2026) — Eastern Connecticut State University will present "Syzygy" on Nov. 12-15 in the Fine Arts Instructional Center's (FAIC) Delmonte Bernstein Studio Theater. The second mainstage production of the fall 2026 season, "Syzygy" is a choreographed showcase of the arts featuring alumni and student performers.

A collaborative project directed by Theatre Professor Alycia Bright-Holland, with musical direction by Music Professor Okon Hwang, "Syzygy" brings together sound, movement, and visual arts in a celebration of the three artistic disciplines.

"[The show is a] constellation of mutual exchange and interaction," explained Holland. "The title refers to moments of alignment, a structural analogy for how distinct artistic forms can meet and respond to one another, creating new resonances."

The production features alumni choreographers Charliece Salters '18, Shatima Cruz '18, Zoe Czerenda '19, Chayanne McNeil '23, and Zolah Daley '26; artwork by Art and Art History Professors Tao Chen and Soojin Kim; and performances by student musicians.

The production also celebrates the FAIC's 10th Anniversary, honoring a decade of the arts at Eastern.

"Syzygy serves to commemorate the Dance & World Performance concentration and the Eastern experience of the alums," said Bright-Holland. "I hope [audiences] leave the performance with the idea that we learn from the past and it informs us moving forward."
