For a relatively small campus of 4,400 students, the “Warriors” of Eastern Connecticut State University do a lot. They conduct high-quality research and present in conferences across the country. They perform in stunning theatrical productions and produce award-winning artwork. They compete on championship athletic teams and participate in more than 90 clubs. They broaden their perspectives through internships, studying abroad, and engaging in the wider community.

Student Lauren Polansky Earns Eastern a Sustainability Award

Eastern Connecticut State University was one of 87 colleges nationwide to receive a Student Actions Award for the fall 2014 semester from myActions--an organization that mobilizes college students to partake in sustainable behaviors. This achievement was possible due to sophomore Lauren Polansky, a myActions intern who took the lead in spreading the word about myActions throughout Eastern's campus.

Eastern Student Sonya Beetham Receives Undergraduate Research Grant

During the fall 2014 semester, Eastern Connecticut State University student Sonya Beetham '15, a history major from Montville, received a project grant that supported her research into the life of Pablo Picasso. Entitled "Pablo Picasso in Time and Place," Beetham conducted her research under the mentorship of History Professor Roland Clark.

Eastern Student Maggie Bodington Named Recipient of Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship

Eastern student Maggie Bodington of Stratford was recently named as the recipient of the Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created in honor of Victoria Leigh Soto '08, who lost her life protecting the children of her first-grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14, 2012.

Eastern Student is Member of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) Eboard

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is a national leadership honor society for college men and women. It was founded at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA, in 1914. The Eastern Connecticut State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa was installed on May 13, 1994. Eastern is the first and only circle in New England. To date, over 700 faculty, students, alumni, and honorary members have been inducted into Eastern's circle.

Richard Magner, a mathematics major from Beacon Falls, CT, recently received an Honorable Mention from the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The Goldwater Scholarship program was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The program recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate the potential to make significant research contributions in their future careers.

The program is currently underway at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK).

Students and staff from Eastern Connecticut State University recently attended this year's National Association for Campus Activities conference in Hartford, CT. Student Campus Activity Board (CAB) coordinators took home honors for several categories including Excellence in Programming, Best Poster, Best Themed Campaign and Best Traditional Promotion for their division.
