Fifteen students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented at the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges' (COPLAC) Northeast Regional Research Conference at Keene State College in New Hampshire this past fall semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Jonah Craggett was recognized at the University's 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards.

Eastern Connecticut State University was one of 87 colleges nationwide to receive a Student Actions Award for the fall 2014 semester from myActions--an organization that mobilizes college students to partake in sustainable behaviors. This achievement was possible due to sophomore Lauren Polansky, a myActions intern who took the lead in spreading the word about myActions throughout Eastern's campus.

During the fall 2014 semester, Eastern Connecticut State University student Sonya Beetham '15, a history major from Montville, received a project grant that supported her research into the life of Pablo Picasso. Entitled "Pablo Picasso in Time and Place," Beetham conducted her research under the mentorship of History Professor Roland Clark.

Eastern Student Dominique DuBois of East Lyme recently received a travel grant so that she could attend and present at the 38th annual International Waterbird Society meeting in La Paz, Mexico.

Eastern student Maggie Bodington of Stratford was recently named as the recipient of the Vicki Soto Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created in honor of Victoria Leigh Soto '08, who lost her life protecting the children of her first-grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14, 2012.

Mackenzie Fannon '17 recently presented at the American Geophysical Union's fall conference in San Francisco.

The English Department at Eastern Connecticut State University recently recognized students for demonstrating excellence in writing strategies in the first-year writing program.

While working on the TIMPANI toy study, students at Eastern Connecticut State University conducted research and applied it to a study designed to promote productive play among children.

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is a national leadership honor society for college men and women. It was founded at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA, in 1914. The Eastern Connecticut State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa was installed on May 13, 1994. Eastern is the first and only circle in New England. To date, over 700 faculty, students, alumni, and honorary members have been inducted into Eastern's circle.

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently presented research projects at the 14th Annual Excellence Expo. The event is sponsored by the School of Education/Professional Studies and Graduate Division.

Eastern Connecticut State University held its 14th Annual Arts and Sciences Research Conference and Exhibition at the end of the spring semester. The event featured oral and visual presentations of student-led scientific research and artwork. More than 50 presentations were delivered by students from a range of academic departments.

The J. Eugene Smith Library at Eastern Connecticut State University offers an undergraduate student library research award competition each year. The prize has been established to recognize and celebrate exemplary student research projects that demonstrate the ability to locate, evaluate, select and apply information from appropriate resources.

Richard Magner, a mathematics major from Beacon Falls, CT, recently received an Honorable Mention from the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The Goldwater Scholarship program was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The program recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate the potential to make significant research contributions in their future careers.

Two students are in service as Head Student Orientation Counselors for the upcoming SOAR program at Eastern Connecticut State University. SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising and Registration) is Eastern's premier transitional program for incoming freshmen and transfer students.

Judy Bloom '14, of Marlborough, CT, a biology major at Eastern Connecticut State University, was recently selected by the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) to participate in its highly competitive Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The program is currently underway at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK).

Students and staff from Eastern Connecticut State University recently attended this year's National Association for Campus Activities conference in Hartford, CT. Student Campus Activity Board (CAB) coordinators took home honors for several categories including Excellence in Programming, Best Poster, Best Themed Campaign and Best Traditional Promotion for their division.
