Three student-research groups from Eastern Connecticut State University received honorable mentions at the Northeast Decision Sciences Institute (NEDSI) 2018 Annual Conference on April 12 in Providence, RI. Their projects were a product of Dr. Fatma Pakdil's Operations Management course.

Recent Eastern Graduates Accepted into Doctor of Occupational Therapy Degree Programs

Recent Eastern Connecticut State University graduates, Kelsey Sullivan '18 and Kaley Kennedy '18, both Health Sciences majors, were recently accepted into doctor of occupational therapy degree programs. Sullivan started studying at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston in June, while Kennedy will be initiating her studies this fall at Western New England University in Springfield, MA.

The Creative Writing Club at Eastern Connecticut State University published its annual literary journal, "Eastern Exposure," this spring. The student-produced journal showcases student writers and artists.

Eastern Student Tess Candler Presents Research at Posters on the Hill in Washington, DC

On April 17, Eastern Connecticut State University student Tess Candler '18 of Ledyard presented her research poster at Posters on the Hill in Washington, DC. The highly selective academic research conference is held each spring and is hosted by the Council on Undergraduate Research. Approximately 60 students out of a pool of 600 nationwide applicants are selected to present their research posters at the annual event.

Eastern Student Hanna Levesque Assists in Social Work Course Immigration Policy Event

Eastern Connecticut State University Social Work majors enrolled in three sections of the University's Social Welfare Policy course recently sponsored the University's annual Social Action Day. The event was the result of a collaborative effort between students in the course taught by Professors Isabel Logan, Paul Trubey and Pamela Chiang.

Eastern Elementary Education Students Participate in Holmes Master's Program

This year, Eastern Connecticut State University will have three students participating in the Holmes Master's Program. The students will be developing the talents needed to become agents of change in the teaching workforce, while also earning their master's degree. The program also allows them to work closely with different communities in an effort to engage in research opportunities and advocate for equity and diversity.

In its ongoing effort to grow the pool of qualified teachers and advance the field of education, Eastern Connecticut State University is participating in the Holmes Program. The Holmes Program supports students from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are pursuing careers in education. As part of the project, Eastern is hosting Colombia-native Ayda Liliana Parra Rojas and Sri Lanka-native Chamanthika Wickramasinghe, who are both pursuing master's degrees in education.

Eastern Students Participate in Award-winning Video

Eastern Connecticut State University's Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) was recently notified that they have been awarded a bronze "Telly" Award for their video, "Fun Mud Day," featuring the work of Eastern faculty, staff and students. The video was submitted in the Health and Fitness category, and highlights an event that took place at the Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC) last May.

The awards honor the individuals' commitment to an integrated society, leadership in serving a diverse community and activities that increase diversity.
