More than 200 Eastern Connecticut State University students of African, Latino, Asian and Native American (ALANA) descent were honored on May 9 at the 2019 Inclusive Excellence Awards. All students who were honored achieved an overall GPA of at least 3.5. An additional 11 students were recognized for demonstrating exemplary co-curricular engagement at Eastern.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Health Sciences held its fourth annual award ceremony on April 25. Sixteen students were inducted into the Phi Theta Delta Health Sciences Honor Society and 27 students were awarded for their academic achievements in the major.

Eastern Connecticut State University's History Department held an award ceremony for its graduating seniors on May 8. Students were awarded for their academic achievements in the history major.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Biology Department hosted its annual honor society induction and award ceremony on April 26. At the event 33 new members were inducted into the Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society and 12 students were awarded for their outstanding accomplishments in the department.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education held its annual year-end award ceremony and Alpha Upsilon Chi honor society induction ceremony on May 2.

The 31st annual Henry Barnard Awards Banquet, held on April 23 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT, recognized 12 outstanding undergraduates from Connecticut's four state universities - Central, Eastern, Southern and Western.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Finance Program held its year-end banquet on March 26 in the Paul E. Johnson Room of the J. Eugene Smith Library. The event featured remarks by university dignitaries; a keynote address by Eastern alumnus Andrew Simmons '06; presentations by current students as well as representatives of Travelers Insurance; and an awards ceremony.

Eastern Connecticut State University's English Department held its annual English Night on May 7. English Night is an event put on by the English Department to honor outstanding student work and act as a platform for seniors to present their Capstone Projects.

Four sport and leisure management students from Eastern Connecticut State University won the 2019 New England Sport Management Case Study Competition on Feb. 28 at Nichols College. Eastern competed against eight other teams and won first place for the second year in a row.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Makayla Mowel won the Student-of-the-Year award at the 2019 Impact Conference in Charlottesville, VA, on Feb. 23. This award recognizes a current undergraduate student who demonstrates significant and sustained service and leadership.

James Doucette, a Sport and Leisure Management major in the Kinesiology and Physical Education Department at Eastern Connecticut State University, has been awarded a National Undergraduate Scholar Award by the American Kinesiology Association (AKA).

Twenty students at Eastern Connecticut State University are serving as student orientation counselors (SOCs) for the university's summer orientation program for incoming students. The SOAR program-Student Orientation, Advising and Registration-is designed to introduce new students to life at Eastern and provide academic advising before the start of the fall semester.

Each spring, the Council on Undergraduate Research hosts Posters on the Hill (POH), a highly competitive academic conference in which select undergraduate students present their research to members of Congress in Washington D.C. Only 60 students from across the country are admitted to the conference annually-an acceptance rate of approximately 10 percent.

The Third Annual CREATE Conference at Eastern Connecticut State University took place on April 21. CREATE stands for "Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern," and is the University's premier conference showcasing student research and creative activity.
