'Eurydice' reimagines Orpheus myth, concludes Eastern's fall theatre season

Willimantic, CT (11/19/2024) — The Communications, Film, and Theater Department & Drama Society at Eastern Connecticut State University are proud to present "Eurydice," written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Tim Golebiewski, lighting technology specialist and lecturer at Eastern. This contemporary reimagining of the Greek myth of Orpheus marks the grand finale of Eastern's fall 2024 mainstage season.

"Eurydice" shifts the narrative perspective to Orpheus's young bride, taking audiences on a surreal journey from the world of the living to the land of the dead. Along the way, the story unfolds with talking stones, worms that carry letters and an elevator that washes away both language and identity. Through its dreamlike lens, Ruhl's retelling explores the universal questions of love, loss and memory, asking: What do we carry with us as we move forward, and when should we look back?

Funny, heartbreaking and theatrically rich, Eurydice invites audiences into a world where the boundaries between dreams, reality and memory blur.
