'Spanish for Business': Community celebration to recognize student work with local businesses

by Noel Teter

Willimantic, CT (11/18/2025) — Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of World Languages and Cultures and the Latino Chamber of Windham will host a community celebration on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in the President's Dining Room.

The celebration will recognize the work of students in Lecturer Angela Pitassi's course, "Spanish for Business," in collaboration with local businesses.

The students partnered with businesses and organizations such as El Guanajuato Restaurante, Willi Scoops, the Latino Chamber, and more, to assist in daily operations and marketing efforts, according to Lisa Centola, university assistant for world languages and cultures.

"Students applied theories and concepts from their course work to real-life tasks at local establishments, such as in advertising and enhancing a business's social media presence," wrote Centola.

Eastern students, members of the Latino Chamber and its parent organization, the Windham Region Chamber of Commerce, and members of the local Windham/Willimantic business community are invited to attend the ceremony. The celebration will feature short joint presentations by students and partner businesses, followed by a reception with refreshments.
