4 April events to showcase community engagement at Eastern

Willimantic, CT (04/10/2024) — The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at Eastern Connecticut State University will hold four lively community events, showcasing student volunteerism and service projects. Members of the media are invited to cover these festive, seasonal events in culminating of the CCE's activities this academic year.

From April 16 to April 18, the CCE will host a Spring Vacation for Windham middle and high school students. This program will give students a peek into the life of a college student through club activities and workshops on Eastern's campus. See schedule in attachments below.

On April 17, the CCE will hold its annual Service Expo and Awards Ceremony in the Fine Arts Instructional Center Lobby from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This event will feature Eastern students presenting on the many community service projects they've conducted this semester. The projects spanned more than 20 sites in collaboration with agency partners across Windham. The students will present their project outcomes and receive awards by a panel of judges of Eastern faculty and staff. The expo is open to the public and will feature keynote speaker Vania Galicia, co-director of programs at Grow Windham.

On April 20, the CCE will hold its annual beautification event, Town Wide Town Pride, at sites across Windham from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. More than 100 students have signed up to volunteer. The kick off will be at the Foster Clock Tower before heading off to community projects such as yard cleanup, planting gardens, mulching and more. See schedule in attachments below.

On April 22, the CCE will lead a day of fun for elementary and middle school students in the Sports Center from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Field Day activities will include an obstacle course, face-painting, scavenger hunts and more.
