Acclaimed Scholar to Speak at Eastern about Bangladeshi Liberation

by Jordan Corey

Willimantic, CT (11/08/2018) — Eastern Connecticut State University will host scholar and activist Mofidul Hoque on Nov. 12. Hoque's presentation, which takes place at 4 p.m. in room 301 of the Science Building, will detail how the people of Bangladesh became liberated after long struggling to obtain democratic and national rights.

Hoque has published 15 books on history, liberation studies, art and genocide studies. He is a recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Prize and the national award Ekushey Padak. In 1996, he and seven trustees established the Liberation War Museum in Bangladesh to commemorate the heroism of the Bangladeshi and promote principles of truth and justice.

The primary sponsor of this event is the Office of Equity and Diversity, though it is a collaborative effort with other academic departments and Eastern faculty. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
