College theatre: Youthful tale 'The Burrow' to take audiences underground

An Eastern original musical

by Noel Teter

Willimantic, CT (04/07/2026) — Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Communication, Film, and Theatre is proud to present "The Burrow," a new musical written and directed by Lecturer Melanie Guerin, on April 22-26. The mainstage production will be presented in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Proscenium Thrust Theater.

A group of young people make their home in the "Burrow," an underground cavern system, whose former caretakers, the "Guardians," left them a set of rules to live by in their absence. Older, the designated leader of the Burrow, does her best to uphold order, care for her sister Younger, and protect the group from the dangerous "Hunters" who lurk above in the "Fray."

Before Older can join the Guardians in the Fray, she relinquishes her authority after taking the blame for a wrongdoing by Younger that compromises the safety of the Burrow. As a new order takes shape, a "Stranger" arrives with knowledge that makes Older question her understanding of the world.
