Eastern announces fall theatre schedule and ticket bundle

Willimantic, CT (09/18/2024) — The Department of Communication, Film and Theatre at Eastern Connecticut State University recently announced its fall 2024 performance schedule, along with a bulk ticket deal for prospective attendees. This season's schedule includes three performances.

"The Ocoee Project" will be the first performance, shown from Oct. 15 to 20, followed by a single showing of "The Last American Jackrabbit" on Nov. 1, and closing with "Eurydice" from Dec. 5-8. All shows will be located in the Proscenium and Delmonte Bernstein Studio Theatres in the Fine Arts Instructional Center.

"We are excited to offer a season of performances that showcases the talents of our new communication, film and theatre major," said Professor Kristen Morgan, department chair. "From historical events to contemporary issues, each production promises to engage, educate and entertain our audiences. This diverse season offers something for everyone while highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of our communication, film and theatre major."

The first performance, "The Ocoee Project" (Oct. 15 - 20), is a multimedia event that explores the events of the 1920 Ocoee massacre through music, poetry, film and live performances. After the passage of the 19th Amendment, White residents violently attacked the Black community in Ocoee, FL, murdering more than 50 people to suppress them from voting. They chased the surviving Black residents out of the town and seized their land.

Written and directed by Eastern students Kane Waggoner and Xsyanni Jackson, "The Last American Jackrabbit" (Nov. 1) follows the story of Ray and Charlie as they navigate war, love and their domestic lives. Ray, a brooding veteran, acts as a mentor to Charlie, who is determined to join the United States Army.

"Eurydice" (Dec. 5 - 8) by Sarah Ruhl and Tim Golebiewski is a contemporary reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus from the point of view of his young bride. Set in the land of the dead, Ruhl's surreal retelling blurs the lines between dreaming, the past and the present. "Eurydice" is an exploration of love, loss, life, memory and our ability to deal with change.

The Fine Arts Instructional Center's box office is introducing a bulk ticket deal for those interested in viewing all three performances.
