Eastern to host public forum on the environment

Windham Mayor Tom DeVivo has been added to the list of panelists.

Willimantic, CT (01/30/2024) — Eastern Connecticut State University will host a public forum about environmental issues on Feb. 5 moderated by state representatives Susan Johnson and Gregg Haddad. The event will occur at 5:30 p.m. in the Johnson Room of the J. Eugene Smith Library.

The forum's panelists include Patricia Szczys, executive director of Eastern's Institute for Sustainability; Ugur Pasaogullari, mechanical engineering professor at UConn; James Albis, policy advisor to the Connecticut House of Representatives; Windham Mayor Tom DeVivo; and Dawn Niles, Windham town council member.

"This environmental forum will give the community an opportunity to learn how Windham and Connecticut are transitioning toward clean energy in our modern world," said Rep. Johnson (D - Windham). "The conversation will delve into the roles of electric vehicles, waste management and composting as integral components of our future."

"It is crucial that we come together to address pressing environmental issues and work toward forging sustainable solutions," said Rep. Haddad (D- Mansfield). "Through insightful dialogue and collaboration, we can pave the way for a greener and more resilient future for our communities."

Community members are invited to ask questions and share input and concerns about the state's efforts to address environmental issues and climate change.
