Willimantic, CT (05/11/2018) — Eastern Connecticut State University alumna Elinore McCance-Katz '78, assistant secretary for mental health and substance use in the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), will be the commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient at Eastern's 128th Commencement exercises. The event takes place on May 15 at the XL Center in Hartford, when 1,105 undergraduates and 85 graduate students are expected to receive their diplomas. Ninety-four percent of Eastern graduates come from 163 of Connecticut's 169 townships.
Other dignitaries attending will include Eastern President Elsa Núñez; Yvette Meléndez, vice-chair of the Board of Regents for Higher Education; and Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State College and Universities System.
