Students from a broad selection of disciplines at Eastern Connecticut State University gained valuable professional experience through internships during the spring 2024 semester. Internships ranged from live sound engineering to hospitality and criminal justice services.

Students at Eastern Connecticut State University honed new skills and explored career interests this fall semester through a variety of paid, pre-professional experiences known as co-ops. Opportunities spanned industries such as insurance services, data analysis and sports coaching.

Music majors at Eastern Connecticut State University used their fall internships to sharpen their arts marketing skills, learning techniques that will help them in their creative careers. The students presented on their fall 2023 internships in the Fine Arts Instructional Center's Susan Sukman McCray Foyer on Dec. 8.

While summer may be a time for rest and relaxation, many Eastern students take it as an opportunity to gain work experience via internships, allowing them to apply lessons learned in the classroom to the real world.

They left their internships in fields such as sales, sports management and insurance with greater knowledge of their prospective professions and of themselves.

Eastern Connecticut State University students participated in both on- and off-campus internships during the spring 2022 semester. Internship locations ranged from Eastern's Office of Alumni Affairs and Center for Early Childhood Education, to Hartford Healthcare, elementary schools and more.

Many Eastern Connecticut State University students are spending their fall 2021 semesters working as interns for a multitude of organizations. Interning in fields related to their majors, students are receiving real-world training to prepare them for their future careers.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Connor Pollick of is interning with the Willimantic Police Department as part of the Social Work and Law Enforcement (SWLE) Project. The statewide initiative is training social work students from five universities to work with four police departments across Connecticut. The initiative is being spearheaded by Eastern's Social Work Program and Willimantic Police Department.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Erald Shytko began an eight-week summer internship on June 8 with the American Financial Services Association Education Foundation (AFSAEF) in Washington, D.C. He will participate in the foundation's MoneySKILL program; the full-time, virtual internship also requires him to take an economics course at George Mason University.

Eastern Connecticut State University students are gaining real-world experience this summer as interns working with a variety of companies. From small businesses to major corporations, museums to sports leagues, students are working in hybrid, remote and on-ground environments as they fulfill a range of functions, including video production, community outreach, IT support and more.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Social Work Program recently partnered with the Willimantic Police Department on a groundbreaking internship that embedded social work students into the department's police work. In a time when law enforcement faces heightened scrutiny, the experimental internship involved two students who served as "bridges to the community" and aided officers in crisis intervention and de-escalation.

Eastern Connecticut State University senior Shai-Lin Gothreau interned at Travelers Insurance this past summer in its Operations Leadership Development Program (OLDP).

Several Eastern Connecticut State University students completed atypical internships this summer, working with their companies remotely via telecommuting.

Two Eastern Connecticut State University students interned with Eastern's dining services provider, Chartwells, on a major project meant to promote underused foods from the ocean. Eastern along with three partnering universities received two Food Vision Prizes of $250,000 each from the Henry P. Kendall Foundation to increase the consumption of kelp and underutilized fish on their respective campuses.

Every semester student's at Eastern from across all majors are presented with opportunities to grow and work on their work force skills by completing internships with companies related to their career goals.

Art history major Lisa Soltren recently completed an internship for the Art Gallery at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Several Eastern Connecticut State University students are participating in a unique internship with Cigna through the health services company's on-campus Technology Early Career Development Program (TECDP).

Four Eastern Connecticut State University students are interning at the Institute for Sustainable Energy (ISE) this fall 2019 semester. The ISE promotes sustainability and energy efficiency through research, education and technical support. The interns are working on projects related to Sustainable CT.
