Political science junior Maebel Haynes has been selected to represent Eastern Connecticut State University and advocate for the Willimantic community through the Newman Civic Fellowship. The competitive, year-long leadership program is sponsored by Campus Compact, a national organization that supports civic-minded student leaders through mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities.

Now going strong for four decades, Eastern Connecticut State University hosted 44 hopeful first-year students during its annual Summer Transition at Eastern Program/Contract Admissions Program (STEP/CAP). Coordinated by Christina Irizarry and Kolin Ebron of the Office of Opportunity Programs, STEP/CAP is designed to provide a smooth transition into higher education for select incoming students over the course of six weeks with the help of student community leaders.

The Student Activities Office at Eastern Connecticut State University recently concluded its fall session of the LEAP leadership program. Standing for "Learn, Explore, Achieve, Perform," the program is designed to help students develop their leadership skills through a variety of workshops. This semester's session trained thirteen students.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently hosted its first Minority Health Conference, which examined the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 among people of color and racial/ethnic health disparities across Connecticut. The virtual conference featured state and local health officials and was organized by four Eastern students.

More than 80 prospective students are vying for admission to Eastern Connecticut State University this summer through the alternative admissions program known as "STEP/CAP" - Summer Transition at Eastern Program/Contract Admissions Program. To help facilitate this year's program, 19 current students are working as peer mentors, advisors and writing tutors for STEP/CAP participants.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently named its resident assistants (RAs) for the spring 2018 semester. RAs are responsible for guiding and aiding students with on-campus residential living.

Eastern Connecticut State University hosted a three-week Summer Arts Institute from July 11 to 28. The program invited rising juniors and seniors from Windham High School and Arts at the Capitol Theatre (ACT) to participate in a college course free of charge, including the opportunity to gain college credit.
