For a relatively small campus of 4,400 students, the “Warriors” of Eastern Connecticut State University do a lot. They conduct high-quality research and present in conferences across the country. They perform in stunning theatrical productions and produce award-winning artwork. They compete on championship athletic teams and participate in more than 90 clubs. They broaden their perspectives through internships, studying abroad, and engaging in the wider community.

Psychology Students Participate in Eastern's 2017 Summer Research Institute

The Department of Psychological Science at Eastern Connecticut State University held its 2017 Summer Research Institute on May 18-24 on the Eastern campus. This year's institute involved 10 undergraduate students and focused on the various factors that influence healthy eating. The institute was led by professors Jenna Scisco and Joseph Dracobly.

Three Eastern Connecticut State University students received Library Research Awards at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year. The sixth annual awards program recognizes exemplary research projects that demonstrate the ability to locate, evaluate and apply information from the physical collections and online databases of Eastern's J. Eugene Smith Library.

Students Present at 2017 NCUR Conference in Tennessee

A record number 23 students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Memphis, TN, this April. Three students had two presentations, bringing the total number of presentations from Eastern to 26. The conference was established in 1987 and is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study.

Eastern Students Receive Scholarships from NASA

Eastern Connecticut State University students received scholarships from the NASA Connecticut Space Grant Consortium (CTSGC) for their research projects. Biology major Kevin Connolly, pre-secondary education and biology double major Christina Welch and biochemistry major Kailey Pisko were awarded, giving Eastern three of the 17 recipients.

Eastern Students Participate in Renowned TIMPANI Toy Study

Eastern Connecticut State University's Center for Early Childhood Education announced on Dec. 12 that "Plus-Plus," a toy made by the Danish company Plus-Plus, has been named the 2016 TIMPANI (Toys that Inspire Mindful Play and Nurture Imagination) Toy. The eighth annual, internationally acclaimed study was conducted by Eastern students and faculty.

Sport and leisure management (SLM) major James Doucette '17 presented his research in Tampa, FL, this past November at the annual conference of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS). The East Hartford native presented "A Kantian Dilemma: Gender Discrimination toward Contemporary Women's Elite Sport," and was accompanied by his advisor Professor Ari de Wilde.

Three Bio Students Present at Society for Developmental Biology Meeting

Three biology students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented original research at the 75th Annual Society for Developmental Biology Meeting in Boston, MA, this past August. Mentored by Biology Professor Amy Groth, Katherine Burgos '17, Elizabeth Del Buono '17 and Elizabeth Schoell '16 presented multiple projects on an organism called C. elegans, a nematode with a relatively similar genome to humans.

Eastern Connecticut State University Student Sabreena Crouteau Presents Research at Posters on the Hill

Each spring, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts its annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill. CUR works to ensure that members of Congress have a clear understanding of the research and education programs that they fund. Approximately 60 students out of a pool of 600 applicants from all over the country are selected on a competitive basis to present their research posters to members of Congress and other invited guests. Eastern student Sabreena Croteau '16 was selected to present her research project titled, ""Democratic Elections in the American States: A Case for Reform" at the prestigious event.
