Students Present at Northeast Regional Honors Council Annual Conference

Two Eastern Connecticut State University students presented their mathematics research at the Northeast Regional Honors Council annual conference this April in Cambridge, MA. Amanda Burkhart '17 and Thomas Luckner '18 presented "Number Theory: Study of Special Cases in Prime Numbers" at the multiday conference.

Student Zane Lombardo Completes Summer Research Fellowship

Every summer, a high achieving Eastern Connecticut State University student is selected for a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. The 2015 summer research fellow was Zane Lombardo, a senior biochemistry major from Portland, CT. His research, "Biophysical Studies of Fluorescent Calcium-Binding Proteins," examines the concept of "cooperative binding" within the field of biochemistry.

Eastern's First Annual CREATE Conference a Success

CREATE (Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern), the premier undergraduate research and art conference at Eastern Connecticut State University, held its inaugural event at the end of the 2014–15 academic year. By providing exemplary students of all majors an on-campus venue to present their research and creative work, CREATE was the culmination of the academic year, as well as the beginning of a new era.

Ricky Magner Presents at Posters on the Hill

Graduating senior Richard Magner and his mentor, Mathematics Professor Mizan Khan, presented at the prestigious Posters on the Hill conference in Washington, D.C., on April 22 and 23. Magner's research, titled "Geometric Questions in Number Theory," was one of 50 submissions selected from more than 500 applications. When Superstorm Sandy made landfall in the Northeast on Oct. 29, 2012, it left in its wake extensive erosion along the coast of Block Island, RI. To document the erosion, environmental earth science students at Eastern Connecticut State University undertook an evolving research project that culminated in a presentation at a recent meeting of the Geological Society of America (GSA), Northeastern Section.
