Eastern Connecticut State University student Morgane Russell '19 of West Hartford received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award on Feb. 27.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Brendan Cullinane '19 was recently accepted into a doctoral program for physical therapy at the University of Delaware (UD). The UD Department of Physical Therapy was named the top physical therapy graduate program in the nation in the 2017 edition of U.S. News and World Report's Best Graduate Schools.

Eastern Connecticut State University students and staff recently expanded their law enforcement knowledge through an extensive program offered by the Willimantic Police Department (WPD). Eight students, in addition to Christopher Ambrosio, interim director of the Office of Student Conduct, completed the WPD's Citizen's Police Academy this past November.

A group of Eastern Connecticut State University students and faculty recently embarked on a Veterans Day trip to visit Gettysburg National Military Park. The trip, which took place Nov. 10-11, included students enrolled in either History Professor Barbara Tucker's Civil War and Reconstruction or Professor Thomas Balcerski's Antebellum America courses.

Recent Eastern Connecticut State University graduates, Kelsey Sullivan '18 and Kaley Kennedy '18, both Health Sciences majors, were recently accepted into doctor of occupational therapy degree programs. Sullivan started studying at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston in June, while Kennedy will be initiating her studies this fall at Western New England University in Springfield, MA.

At the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year, 18 graduating seniors from Eastern Connecticut State University were recognized at the Honors Program Reception.

The students will be developing the talents needed to become agents of change in the teaching workforce, while also earning their master's degree. The program also allows them to work closely with different communities in an effort to engage in research opportunities and advocate for equity and diversity.

Eastern Connecticut State University Social Work majors enrolled in three sections of the University's Social Welfare Policy course recently sponsored the University's annual Social Action Day. The event was the result of a collaborative effort between students in the course taught by Professors Isabel Logan, Paul Trubey and Pamela Chiang.

Abigail Caselli, a 2017 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University from Woodbury, delivered the Senior Class Address at the university's 127th Commencement exercises on May 17 at the XL Center in Hartford. As the senior class president, Caselli spoke to a crowd of 1,238 graduates and more than 12,000 family members.

"Eastern Exposure" is Eastern's campus literary magazine and is published annually. The Eastern Writers Guild works hard all year to produce the magazine, which is composed solely of student work.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Valerie Vance '17 has been named a recipient of the University's 2017 Ella T. Grasso Distinguished Service Award. The award, presented to Vance on March 29, recognizes individuals who work to promote women's rights and gender equality. Awards are given in memory of Ella Grasso, former Connecticut governor and the first woman in America to be elected as governor in her own right.

Charles Sanady '18, a sophomore from West Hartford majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance international business and a minor in business information systems, studied in Spain with CIS Abroad at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB).

The research projects of three history majors were recently selected for publication in Germina Veris, the University's peer-reviewed online, open-access journal.

The Office of Continuing Studies and Enhanced Learning at Eastern offers Global Field Courses throughout the academic year. The programs offer the opportunity to earn at least three credits while traveling with an Eastern faculty member. Studying in a remote location from campus is a great way to experience a new culture and serves to expand your view of the world and develop real life skills.

Eastern Connecticut State University hosted a three-week Summer Arts Institute from July 11 to 28. The program invited rising juniors and seniors from Windham High School and Arts at the Capitol Theatre (ACT) to participate in a college course free of charge, including the opportunity to gain college credit.
