For a relatively small campus of 4,400 students, the “Warriors” of Eastern Connecticut State University do a lot. They conduct high-quality research and present in conferences across the country. They perform in stunning theatrical productions and produce award-winning artwork. They compete on championship athletic teams and participate in more than 90 clubs. They broaden their perspectives through internships, studying abroad, and engaging in the wider community.

Sixteen Eastern Connecticut State University students served as Student Orientation Counselors (SOCs) during this summer's orientation program for incoming students. SOAR -- Student Orientation, Advising and Registration -- is designed to introduce students to life at Eastern and provide academic advising before the start of the fall semester.

Recent Eastern Graduates Accepted into Doctor of Occupational Therapy Degree Programs

Recent Eastern Connecticut State University graduates, Kelsey Sullivan '18 and Kaley Kennedy '18, both Health Sciences majors, were recently accepted into doctor of occupational therapy degree programs. Sullivan started studying at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston in June, while Kennedy will be initiating her studies this fall at Western New England University in Springfield, MA.

This year, Eastern Connecticut State University will have three students participating in the Holmes Master's Program. The students will be developing the talents needed to become agents of change in the teaching workforce, while also earning their master's degree. The program also allows them to work closely with different communities in an effort to engage in research opportunities and advocate for equity and diversity.

Abigail Caselli, a 2017 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University from Woodbury, delivered the Senior Class Address at the university's 127th Commencement exercises on May 17 at the XL Center in Hartford. As the senior class president, Caselli spoke to a crowd of 1,238 graduates and more than 12,000 family members.

Valerie Vance '17 Wins Ella T. Grasso Award

Eastern Connecticut State University student Valerie Vance '17 has been named a recipient of the University's 2017 Ella T. Grasso Distinguished Service Award. The award, presented to Vance on March 29, recognizes individuals who work to promote women's rights and gender equality. Awards are given in memory of Ella Grasso, former Connecticut governor and the first woman in America to be elected as governor in her own right.
