Eastern Visual Arts students contributed theme-based artwork to Windham Hospital's Auxilary's 19th Annual Autumn Gala held at the Marriott Hotel at Adriaen's Landing in Hartford.

During the summer of 2014, 11 students from Eastern Connecticut State University spent the month of July in Florence, Italy, at an intensive creative writing workshop. With its rich culture and scenic Tuscan views, Florence was chosen as the location for the workshop to inspire students' creative and literary senses as they wrote, critiqued and edited original works of fiction and poetry.

Despite freezing temperatures, students at Eastern Connecticut State University spent the night of Nov. 18th sleeping in cardboard boxes for the annual "Shackathon" to raise awareness about homelessness. The 30-hour overnight event was organized by Eastern's chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

From May 15-30, Eastern Connecticut State University spent two weeks in Poland and Hungary on a global field course called "The Nazi Aftermath in Central Europe: History, the Media and the Holocaust."

From May 17-28, Eastern Connecticut State University took a global field course in Zurich, Switzerland and London, England to learn about the cities' business practices, marketing approaches and cultural history.

This past March, 14 students from Eastern Connecticut State University spent their spring break in Israel, Jordan and the West Bank for a study abroad experience with the History Department. From March 14-22, the students, accompanied by History Professors Caitlin Carenen and David Frye, visited a number of historical sites.

This past May, 14 students from Eastern Connecticut State University visited Costa Rica for 12 days to study tropical biology. The trip focused on the basic aspects of tropical rainforest ecology and the natural history of tropical organisms.

From June 29-July 27, 11 theatre students from Eastern Connecticut State University spent four weeks in London at an intensive program about British theatre. The program provided students a month-long theatre tour that included seminars, workshops, talks, tours and attendance at a number of performances and museums in London and neighboring areas.

In May 2014, 16 Easterm environmental earth science (EES) students took a 12-day field excursion throughout Arizona. The excursion, a three-credit summer course, brought the students to a number of national parks and geological wonders for an up-close look at the region's geology, geomorphology, natural resources, environmental science and Native American heritage.

Hundreds of members of the Willimantic community visited Eastern Connecticut State University on Nov. 26 for the eighth annual Day of Giving. Despite the day's inclement weather, Eastern's Hurley Hall bustled as usual, serving up hot Thanksgiving meals to community members who otherwise may not have had one. Several Eastern students volunteered to make the large event possible, assisting the staff of Chartwells, Eastern's food services contractor.

Eastern student Lily Egan was recently appointed by Governor Dannel Malloy to serve on the Connecticut Commission on Community Service.

Eastern's men's basketball team had a 70-60 victory over York (NY) University in the championship game of the University of Rochester/Holiday Inn Airport Thanksgiving Invitational at the Louis Alexander Palestra on the UR campus.

Eastern student Tarchee Brown '18 named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week in men's basketball for the second time in three weeks.

Eastern student Ariel Smith '18 is named Little East Conference Rookie Runner-of-the-Year. This is the women's program's first major award-winner since the first year of the program in 2007.

Eastern student Lee Cattanach '15 named Little East Conference Runner-of-the-Year. This is the men's program's first major recipient in the eight-year history of the program.
