The School of Arts and Sciences at Eastern Connecticut State University recently held the 11th Annual Student Research Conference and Exhibition. The event featured research projects in the form of oral, poster, performance, and art presentations.

Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Inducted into Social Work Honor Society

Fourteen students majoring in social work at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the national social work honor society, Phi Alpha, on May 12. The society provides a closer bond among students of social work and promotes humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement.

Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Inducted into Mathematics Honor Society

Ten math majors at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon honor society on April 21. The society recognizes students who have a 3.0 GPA, a grade of B or better in each the Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis I courses, at least a B+ average in higher level mathematics courses, and junior or senior class standing.

Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Inducted into Computing Science Honor Society

Fifteen students majoring in business information systems and computer science at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the international honor society for computing and information disciplines, on April 21. The society recognizes academic excellence in the computing and information disciplines.

Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Inducted into Spanish Honor Society

Seven Spanish majors at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the national Spanish honor society, Sigma Delta Pi, on April 28. Qualifications for inductees include three years of college-level Spanish (18 semester credit hours), including at least three semester hours of Hispanic literature or Hispanic culture and civilization at the junior level; a 3.0 GPA in all Spanish courses taken; rank in the upper 35 percent of their class and have completed at least three semesters.

Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Attend Early Childhood Education Conference

More than 125 students, faculty and other early childhood educators attended Eastern Connecticut State University's Early Childhood Investigations Conference on April 27. The conference theme was "Using Projects to Foster Children's Cognitive Development." Visitors from across the state of Connecticut attended the day-long conference, which was co-hosted by the Center for Early Childhood Education and the Child and Family Development Resource Center.

The ECSU Foundation's competitive scholarship awards are based on merit and, in many cases, unmet financial need. The scholarship process is coordinated by the Office of Institutional Advancement. Local Eastern Connecticut State University Students Participate in Pathways to Leadership Program

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students have been participating in Pathways to Leadership, a tiered student leadership program series. The program has been developed based on Eastern's Strategic Planning Initiative to enhance on-campus culture by providing leadership training experiences for students. All Eastern students interested in developing leadership skills are invited to join the Pathways to Leadership program.

Local Eastern Students Inducted into Biology Honor Society

Fourteen students from Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the TriBeta Honor Society on April 13. The Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) National Biology Honor Society is dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.

Local Eastern Students Participated in Alternative Presidents Day Weekend Break

Local Eastern Connecticut State University students participated in an alternative Presidents Day weekend trip to Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, NH. During the five-day alternative break, Eastern students, led by Brit Cava, the AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer and Event Coordinator in Eastern's Center for Community Engagement, worked alongside Crotched Mountain staff and visited residents with brain injuries.

Eastern appoints New Spring 2012 Resident Assistants

RAs at Eastern are carefully selected and trained to help dormitory residents create an environment that is conducive to individual and social growth. Each RA creates recreational, educational and community service programming to involve students in the residence hall community and the community at large.
