History students present at Phi Alpha Theta regional conference

Eastern Connecticut State University history students Claire Lavarreda '21 and Allen Horn '21 presented their research at a virtual conference of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society on March 27. Hosted by Saint Anselm College, the New England regional conference included 25 student presenters grouped into 11 panels from 16 colleges across the Northeast.

17 Eastern students present at virtual NCUR conference

Seventeen Eastern Connecticut State University students presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) from April 12-14. The event, which is the largest undergraduate research conference in the country, was hosted virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently hosted its first Minority Health Conference, which examined the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 among people of color and racial/ethnic health disparities across Connecticut. Two graduating seniors from Eastern Connecticut State University are recipients of the Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Awards this 2020-21 academic year. The award is the highest undergraduate distinction presented by the Connecticut State Universities (CSU) system, which annually honors 12 students from the four state universities--Eastern, Central, Southern and Western.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Theatre Program presented its second production of the year, "Blood at the Root," for two weekends between March 19 and March 28. The virtual show, which streamed online, was directed by three students and supervised by Theatre Professor DeRon Williams.

Theatre student Capri Agresta accepted into graduate program on full-tuition waiver and fellowship

Eastern Connecticut State University senior Capri Agresta '21 was accepted into a fine arts master's program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on a full-tuition waiver and fellowship. Agresta will pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Scenic Technology beginning in fall 2021.

Theatre Program presents 'Hotel Universe," first-ever hybrid production

The Theatre Program at Eastern Connecticut State University presented its first theatrical production since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Hotel Universe," a play written by Philip Barry and originally performed in 1930, was adapted for stage and screen and directed by Theatre Professor David Pellegrini. The show was available online from Feb. 19-26.

Eastern alumna receives Delta Mu Delta award

Eastern Connecticut State University alumna Melat Assefa recently received the Past Presidential Award from Delta Mu Delta (DMD), the national business honors society. Assefa, who majored in finance, graduated in spring 2020 and was a member of the University's honors program. She is now attending the University of Denver to continue her studies in quantitative finance.
