For a relatively small campus of 4,400 students, the “Warriors” of Eastern Connecticut State University do a lot. They conduct high-quality research and present in conferences across the country. They perform in stunning theatrical productions and produce award-winning artwork. They compete on championship athletic teams and participate in more than 90 clubs. They broaden their perspectives through internships, studying abroad, and engaging in the wider community.

Eastern Alumnus from Middlebury Completes Program at European Academy of Diplomacy

Recent Eastern Connecticut State University graduate Zachary Marotte '14 completed a workshop this summer at the European Academy of Diplomacy in Warsaw, Poland. Along with aspiring diplomats from 14 countries, Marotte spent a week in July at the academy's School of Fundamental Diplomatic Skills -- he was one of two Americans in the program, which included approximately 20 participants between the ages of 20 and 36.

Eastern Student Jennifer Madinabeitia of Greenwich Excels in Research Program

When Jennifer Madinabeitia began her 2014 session with the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at Eastern Connecticut State University, she had just earned an associate's degree in communications from Norwalk Community College (NCC) and was planning to attend Arizona State University that coming fall. But the six-week SURP session changed everything.

Four digital art students from Eastern Connecticut State University designed a permanent exhibit at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp--Paul Newman's famed camp for children with serious illnesses. Eastern Students from New London Earn Hispanic Alliance Scholarships

Three Eastern Connecticut State University students from New London received scholarships at the Hispanic Alliance's 15th annual "Noche de Gala" (Night of Celebration) this past June. Sixteen scholarships were awarded in total at the New London event, mostly to high school students--Eastern was the most represented university in Connecticut.

Eastern Student Jill Olderman to Intern for Israel Lacrosse

Eastern student Jillian Olderman is one of the few young people in the United States to intern with Israel Lacrosse this summer. From June 1 to July 29, Olderman will develop the sport of lacrosse in Israel through the recruitment and outreach of children in the Israeli school system. The program also aims to bring Israelis and Palestinians together through sport.

"Eastern Explores" Wins Third Place in Statewide Contest

Based on his investigative documentary titled "Eastern Explores," recent Eastern Connecticut State University graduate Patrick Boyne placed third in a Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists (CTSPJ) contest on May 21. Boyne '15 was the only qualifier from Eastern for the CTSPJ's Excellence in Journalism Contest, and placed third in the video category for college students.
