Eastern Connecticut State University

CREATE (Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern), the premier undergraduate research and art conference at Eastern Connecticut State University, held its inaugural event at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. By providing exemplary students of all majors an on-campus venue to present their research and creative work, CREATE was the culmination of the academic year, as well as the beginning of a new era.

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University juniors and seniors were recognized by the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges organization.

Eastern Connecticut State University's 125th Commencement took place at the XL Center in Hartford on May 12. In all, 1,130 undergraduates and 66 graduate students earned their degrees.

A 12-hour website development competition called the "Code-A-Thon" took place at Eastern Connecticut State University this past April. Sponsored by Cigna's Technology Early Career Development Program (TECDP), the task was to create a mobile-friendly website to help people select the correct health insurance plan. The competition involved six-person student teams from Eastern and the University of Connecticut; Eastern's Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) club won first place.

Because of their creative and effective use of library resources, three Eastern Connecticut State University students were recognized at the Library Research Awards in May. Usually two awards are given annually, but due to the number and quality of submissions this year, a third student received honorable mention. Eastern Connecticut State University's chapter of the Psi Chi psychology honor society inducted new members during the Spring 2015 semester.

A number of Eastern social work majors were recently inducted into Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha, the national social work honor society.

A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into the Upsilon Pi Epsilon computer science honor society.

A number of Eastern Visual Arts majors received awards at the Student Awards and Recognition gathering that was held during the opening reception for the annual Senior Art Exhibition.

Eastern Connecticut State University's chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) won third place in a national competition at the 20th Annual AITP National Collegiate Conference in Omaha, NE. For the conference's Database Driven Website Competition, the club's task was to completely replace the website of a selected nonprofit organization with a modernized, database-driven website.

Twenty of Eastern Connecticut State University's highest-achieving students were recognized at the Honors Program Senior Reception on May 9. This year's honors theses--the program's capstone experience--ranged in topics from mathematical and biological studies to documentaries and investigations into the occult.

Graduating senior Richard Magner and his mentor, Mathematics Professor Mizan Khan, presented at the prestigious Posters on the Hill conference in Washington, D.C., on April 22 and 23. Magner's research, titled "Geometric Questions in Number Theory," was one of 50 submissions selected from more than 500 applications.
