Fourteen students from Eastern Connecticut State University spent a month this summer in Florence, Italy, in a global field course called "Creative Writing Abroad." The region of Tuscany's rich culture and picturesque landscapes inspired students' literary senses as they wrote, critiqued and edited original works of fiction.

Ten health sciences students from Eastern Connecticut State University returned from a global field course in Ghana this August. The purpose of the two-week trip was to introduce students to the health care system of a developing country.

Catherine Falvey '17, an Eastern Connecticut State University student from Bristol, recently returned from a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in California funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). From June to August, Falvey conducted a mathematics research project titled "Probabilities Concerning Sets of Matrices" at California State University Channel Islands.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Lauren Atkinson '17 is one of six undergraduate students across Connecticut to receive a summer research fellowship from the NASA Connecticut Space Grant Consortium (CTSGC).

Julia Leitao is one of two Eastern Connecticut State University students participating in an Undergraduate Research/Creative Activity Fellowship this summer. Thirty-six student-athletes from Eastern Connecticut State University qualified for the Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team in the spring 2017 semester. In order to qualify for the team, student-athletes must have achieved sophomore academic and athletic status with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.30.
