Eastern Connecticut State University English enthusiasts gathered on Dec. 6 for English Night, an event that showcases student excellence in the English Department. Hosted by Department Chair Professor Barbara Liu, the event featured a scholarship awards ceremony, the Sigma Tau Delta induction and three Capstone Seminar presentations. and three Capstone Seminar presentations.

Despite the LEC growing more and more competitive each season, both teams believe they have the talent and leadership needed to bring home a championship.

The Eastern Connecticut State University women's swim team has the Little East Conference (LEC) on high alert this season. Thanks to a plethora of new talent, as well as a core of returning veterans, the team is building on last season's success in a big way. There is very good reason to believe the 2017-18 season could end in gold for this group of Warriors.

The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's cross country teams both had seasons to remember in fall 2017. For the women, this was the first season in 25 years they placed in the top half of the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship. The program also won its first LEC Championship this year. For the men, this was their fourth season in a row competing in the regionals, where the team put together a formidable performance.

The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team enjoyed another great season in the fall 2017 semester, advancing to the Little East Conference (LEC) semifinals for the third time in four years. The team concluded with a winning record of 18-9.

The Center for Early Childhood Education at Eastern Connecticut State University announced this December that "Animal Kingdom Mega Pack" by Animal Planet has been named the 2017 TIMPANI (Toys that Inspire Mindful Play and Nurture Imagination) Toy. Six Eastern students fulfilled integral roles for the nationally acclaimed study.

Music students at Eastern Connecticut State University presented "Sounds of the Season" on Dec. 6, a concert designed to capture the beauty of the winter season. The instrumental performance featured the Eastern Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, and occured in the Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Instructional Center.

Talented percussionists at Eastern Connecticut State University recently entertained audiences that included Eastern students, faculty, staff and local community members at Eastern's state-of-the-art Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall. The concerts included performances by Eastern's Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Group, World Percussion Ensemble, Korean Samul Ensemble and students in the Music Cultures of the World class. The concerts, which were presented on Dec. 3 and 7, were comprised of diverse and entertaining musical selections that featured timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle and tambourine.

Jazz music is in the air at Eastern Connecticut State University. Two concerts featuring student performers hit the main stage this December, including the Jazz Ensemble and 3 O'Clock Band, which performed on Dec. 1 and Dec. 4 respectively. Both concerts took place in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall.

A talented cast of Eastern Connecticut State University students, alumni, faculty and staff recently performed in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on Dec. 2 to celebrate the holiday season. Composed by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1951, the opera tells the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young disabled boy named Amahl and his widowed mother.

The theatre program at Eastern Connecticut State University presented the holiday classic "Little Women" from Nov. 28-Dec. 3. The play took place in the intimate venue of Eastern's DelMonte Bernstein Studio Theatre, with a special emphasis on being "sensory-friendly" for audience members with spectrum disorders.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Mariana Serrano '18, a Health Sciences major, is currently engaged in a successful internship as a Generation Action intern for Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut.

Eastern Connecticut State University Social Work majors enrolled in three sections of the University's Social Welfare Policy course recently sponsored the University's annual Social Action Day. The event was the result of a collaborative effort between students in the course taught by Professors Isabel Logan, Paul Trubey and Pamela Chiang.

Forty-three psychology students at Eastern Connecticut State University presented their research in a poster session on Nov. 27 at the department's annual Psychological Science Afternoon.

Mandi Charette '18 of Voluntown was one of two Eastern Connecticut State University students to present her research study as an oral presentation at Eastern's Annual Psychological Science Afternoon on Nov. 27. Charette's study is titled, "Media Influence on Mental Illness Stigma."

Eastern Connecticut State University student Michelle Valliere '18 has been selected to participate in the New England Women's Volleyball Association Division III Senior Classic.

Jolene Potter '18 was one of two Eastern Connecticut State University students to present her research study as an oral presentation at Eastern's Annual Psychological Science Afternoon on Nov. 27. This is Potter's second research study on sexual assault; her latest study is titled, "A Comparison of the Effect of Sexual Assault Micro-Interventions on Rape Myth Acceptance and Empathy."

The Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers at Eastern Connecticut State University performed their premier concert of the fall semester, "Magnificently Mistaken," on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Instructional Center. Conducted by David Belles and Sarah Kaufold, the three-part performance featured musical compositions that are cloaked in mystery; with misleading twists and mistakenly developed histories.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Ruth Eragene '19 participated in the three-day Diversity and Explorations (DivEx) program at Harvard Divinity School (HDS) this November.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Gordon Peckham '18, a Business Administration major, recently completed an internship with Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford.

Eastern Connecticut State University senior Tarchee Brown of Rockville received the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week Award for the week of Nov. 19. This is the 10th individual award of Brown's career. Brown's major is Sociology.

Eastern Connecticut State University junior Mollee Lasto '19 of Orange received the Little East Conference (LEC) Swimmer-of-the-Week Award for the week of Nov. 19. This is the fifth individual award of Lasto's career. She is a health sciences major.

At the 24th annual E-Club Hall of Fame ceremony, Eastern Connecticut State University proudly announced the winners of the 2016-17 departmental awards.

Because of stellar fall 2017 seasons, nine student-athletes from the men's and women's soccer teams at Eastern Connecticut State University were named to all-conference teams for the Little East Conference (LEC). A total of 48 players across the eight-team conference were selected to first and second all-conference teams.

During the week of Nov. 5, Eastern Connecticut State University student Megan Lasto of Orange,CT, received the Little East Conference (LEC) Rookie Swimmer-of-the-Week Award for the second week in a row.
