Kevin Connolly '17 of Enfield has been named a recipient of the 2017 Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award. The 29th annual Henry Barnard awards banquet, held on April 4 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT, recognized 12 outstanding undergraduates from Connecticut's four state universities - Central, Eastern, Southern and Western.

During the March spring break, nine environmental earth science (EES) students toured the state of Arizona to examine its rich geological heritage. Eastern Connecticut State University is pleased to announce that Quanece Williams '16 of Bridgeport, CT, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to serve an English teaching assistantship in the Czech Republic. The grant, which is for the 2017-18 academic year, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

A zany cast of characters performed by Eastern Connecticut State University alumni is amid an ambitious month-long tour for a children's theatre production called "Earth Day, Every Day." Brought to audiences by eesmarts, an Energize Connecticut initiative managed by Eversource and the United Illuminating Company, the play will tour Connecticut elementary schools from March 27-April 21.

Eastern student Rachel Berkowsky was recently named the 41st recipient of the Holly E. Zimmerman Memorial Award. The award was named in memory of the late Holly Zimmerman, an Andover native who attended Eastern between 1989 and 1993. She was a Health and Physical Education (HPE) major, basketball player and student athletics trainer who passed away in 1993.

Hugh Lindo, a student-athlete at Eastern Connecticut State University, has culminated his four-year men's basketball career by being named third-team Division III All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Sophomore left-handed relief pitcher Nicholas Rascati has become the second Eastern Connecticut State University baseball player to be selected for a weekly Little East Conference award in two weeks when he was named Pitcher-of-the-Week in the second baseball report of the season for the week ending March 19. A group of history students from Eastern Connecticut State University took a week-long global field course (GFC) in the Middle East this March. The students visited sites throughout Israel, Jordan and the West Bank as they learned about the region's various conflicts and histories.

The Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Basketball team concluded its 2016-17 season this March with a stellar 20-9 record, with a phenomenal 12-2 record against conference opponents and an 11-4 record at home. The team reached the Little East Conference (LEC) championship game but unfortunately came up short against Keene State.

The play was a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's early comedy about young people exploring love, friendship and the temptations of city life. It ran from Feb. 23 to March 5.

Thirteen Eastern Connecticut State University students recently attended the Region I Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, where they attended theatre workshops and competed in acting and design competitions. Nineteen talented student vocalists from Eastern Connecticut State University's Music Program were selected to perform in the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Feb. 25. The epic three-hour concert immersed performers and audience members of the sold-out show into the world of Westeros.

Advanced student pianists from Eastern Connecticut State University were chosen to perform alongside music faculty for a unique collaborative concert on Feb. 11. The first-of-its-kind "Multi-hand Piano Concert" featured repertoire for zero to eight hands, and was held in the Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Instructional Center.

Eastern Connecticut State University hires resident assistants for the 2017 spring semester. RAs are responsible for guiding and aiding students with on-campus residential living.
