A number of Eastern students were recently inducted into Eastern's Eta Omega chapter of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society The event recognizes students who major in biology and who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, research and other academic pursuits.

A group of Eastern students majoring in computer science and business information systems was inducted into Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the national honor society for the computing and information disciplines, this April. At its 2017 ceremony, Eastern inducted 21 students who major in computer science and business information systems.

Eastern Connecticut State University inducted Business, Business Information Systems and Accounting majors into the Delta Omega chapter of Delta Mu Delta (DMD), the international honor society in Business Administration, on April 18.

Eastern Connecticut State University inducted business majors with a concentration in marketing into Alpha Mu Alpha (AMA), the national marketing honor society, on April 18.

A record number 23 students from Eastern Connecticut State University presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Memphis, TN, this April. Three students had two presentations, bringing the total number of presentations from Eastern to 26. The conference was established in 1987 and is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study.

A group of Eastern history majors were recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Valerie Vance '17 has been named a recipient of the University's 2017 Ella T. Grasso Distinguished Service Award. The award, presented to Vance on March 29, recognizes individuals who work to promote women's rights and gender equality. Awards are given in memory of Ella Grasso, former Connecticut governor and the first woman in America to be elected as governor in her own right.

The directing work of advanced theatre students at Eastern Connecticut State University was on display this past weekend for "Short Stuff," an annual showcase of student-produced short plays.

During the March spring break, nine environmental earth science (EES) students toured the state of Arizona to examine its rich geological heritage. The group hiked into the Grand Canyon, studied the colorful stratigraphy of Sedona, climbed cinder cone volcanoes and explored the stunning geology and desert ecosystems of the Sonoran Desert.

A zany cast of characters performed by Eastern Connecticut State University alumni is amid an ambitious month-long tour for a children's theatre production called "Earth Day, Every Day." Brought to audiences by eesmarts, an Energize Connecticut initiative managed by Eversource and the United Illuminating Company, the play will tour Connecticut elementary schools from March 27-April 21.

A group of students from Eastern Connecticut State University recently participated in a global field course (GFC) to conduct research in the Mojave and Great Basin Desert regions.

Eastern Connecticut State University is pleased to announce that Quanece Williams '16 of Bridgeport, CT, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to serve an English teaching assistantship in the Czech Republic. The grant, which is for the 2017-18 academic year, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Eastern student Rachel Berkowsky was recently named the 41st recipient of the Holly E. Zimmerman Memorial Award. The award was named in memory of the late Holly Zimmerman, an Andover native who attended Eastern between 1989 and 1993. She was a Health and Physical Education (HPE) major, basketball player and student athletics trainer who passed away in 1993.

Hugh Lindo, a student-athlete at Eastern Connecticut State University, has culminated his four-year men's basketball career by being named third-team Division III All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Sophomore left-handed relief pitcher Nicholas Rascati has become the second Eastern Connecticut State University baseball player to be selected for a weekly Little East Conference award in two weeks when he was named Pitcher-of-the-Week in the second baseball report of the season for the week ending March 19. A group of history students from Eastern Connecticut State University took a week-long global field course (GFC) in the Middle East this March. The students visited sites throughout Israel, Jordan and the West Bank as they learned about the region's various conflicts and histories.

The Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Basketball team concluded its 2016-17 season this March with a stellar 20-9 record, with a phenomenal 12-2 record against conference opponents and an 11-4 record at home. The team reached the Little East Conference (LEC) championship game but unfortunately came up short against Keene State.

Originally adapted by playwright Kyra Baldwin, "Hamlet" (for kids) was directed by club president Lucy Shea. Two performances occurred for all-ages crowds in the Delmonte Studio Theatre of Eastern's Fine Arts Instructional Center.
