The English department at Eastern Connecticut State University recently honored a number of students at their biannual "English Night."

Eastern Connecticut State University's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international honor society for English, recently welcomed new members.

The artwork of visual arts seniors at Eastern Connecticut State University is on display until May 17 for the annual senior exhibition. Titled "Outside the Lines," the exhibition kicked off with an award ceremony and reception on May 6 in the Art Gallery of the university's new Fine Arts Instructional Center.

Eastern Connecticut State University recognized the academic achievements of African, Latino/a, Asian and Native American (ALANA) students on May 5 during the annual Inclusive Excellence Awards ceremony. Nine awards were given and more than 140 students were recognized for achieving GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

Alpha Beta Gamma, Eastern Connecticut State University's chapter of the national honor society for political science, Pi Sigma Alpha, held its annual induction ceremony at the end of the spring semester. The society recognizes the most promising students in the discipline.

A number of talented student musicians and vocalists from Eastern Connecticut State University performed in concerts on April 23 and 24. The collaborative concerts included members of Eastern's Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, Men's and Women's Choirs, Korean Samul Ensemble, String Trio, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.

On April 25, Eastern Connecticut State University inducted 43 psychology students into Psi Chi, the international honor society for psychology. Psi Chi's mission is to encourage excellence in scholarship and to foster the advancement of psychological science.

Ten Eastern Connecticut State University students presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Asheville, NC, from April 7-9.The conference was established in 1987 and is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all field of study.

Sierra Colon '17, a political science major at Eastern Connecticut State University, is one of 250 undergraduate students from across the United States selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Colon will use the scholarship this summer to intern with the Surplus People Project (SPP), a nonprofit organization in Cape Town, South Africa.

A cohort of gifted computer science students at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) honor society in April.

Each spring, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts its annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill. CUR works to ensure that members of Congress have a clear understanding of the research and education programs that they fund. Approximately 60 students out of a pool of 600 applicants from all over the country are selected on a competitive basis to present their research posters to members of Congress and other invited guests. Eastern student Sabreena Croteau '16 was selected to present her research project titled, ""Democratic Elections in the American States: A Case for Reform" at the prestigious event.

A cohort of gifted mathematics students at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) national honor society this April.

A number of Eastern biology students recently received awards from Eastern Connecticut State University's Biology Department.

A number of Eastern students were recently inducted into Eastern's Eta Omega chapter of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society The event recognizes students who major in biology and who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, research and other academic pursuits.

The economics department at Eastern Connecticut State University inducted eight high-achieving students into its honor society, Omicron Delta Epsilon, on April 20.

Two Eastern Connecticut State University students presented their mathematics research at the Northeast Regional Honors Council annual conference this April in Cambridge, MA. Amanda Burkhart '17 and Thomas Luckner '18 presented "Number Theory: Study of Special Cases in Prime Numbers" at the multiday conference.

Eastern faculty and student researchers, including Samantha Marsh, presented findings of a study on block play and mathematical thinking at the annual meeting of the National Association for the Education of Young Children during the fall 2015 semester.

Eastern student Samantha Marsh participated in a study titled, "Block Play and Mathematics Learning in Preschool: The Effects of Building Complexity, Peer and Teacher Interactions in the Block Area, and Replica Play Materials."
