For a relatively small campus of 4,400 students, the “Warriors” of Eastern Connecticut State University do a lot. They conduct high-quality research and present in conferences across the country. They perform in stunning theatrical productions and produce award-winning artwork. They compete on championship athletic teams and participate in more than 90 clubs. They broaden their perspectives through internships, studying abroad, and engaging in the wider community.

Top Eastern Student Quanece Williams Named Barnard Scholar

Two of Eastern Connecticut State University's top students were named Barnard Scholars on April 6 at the Aqua Turf in Southington, CT. The annual Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Awards recognize 12 outstanding undergraduates from Connecticut's four state universities (Central, Eastern, Southern and Western). Quanece Williams '16 of Bridgeport and Sabreena Croteau '16 of North Kingstown, RI, were Eastern's awardees; both are double majoring in political science and history.

Eastern Students Participate in Award-winning Video

Eastern Connecticut State University's Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) was recently notified that they have been awarded a bronze "Telly" Award for their video, "Fun Mud Day," featuring the work of Eastern faculty, staff and students. The video was submitted in the Health and Fitness category, and highlights an event that took place at the Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC) last May.

Student Receives Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award

Eastern Connecticut State University hosted its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards ceremony on Feb. 24. Three awards were presented; to a faculty or staff member, a student and a community member. The awards honor the individuals' commitment to an integrated society, leadership in serving a diverse community and activities that increase diversity.

Eastern Student Alexis Kurtz Wins First at CT-NATS Auditions

More than 90 singers from across the state came to Eastern Connecticut State University on March 5 for the annual student auditions of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (CT-NATS). Awards were given to the top three singers in each of the eight categories. Six singers from Eastern participated in the auditions.

Eastern's Hockey Team Named NECHA American Conference Champions

The Eastern Connecticut State University club hockey team claimed the title of American Conference champions of the Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA) on Feb. 21 with a 4-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University. The team finished with a regular season record of 11-1, the second best record in the 32-team NECHA.
