Eastern Connecticut State University sent 21 biology students to the 72nd Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference in Ithaca, NY, on April 21.

This spring 2018 semester, Eastern Connecticut State University students were inducted into the Alpha Mu Alpha (AMA) national marketing honor society.

A cohort of business students from Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Delta Mu Delta (DMD) international business administration honor society this spring semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University Sociology majors were inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society, on May 4.

Select Eastern students were inducted into Eastern's Eta Omega chapter of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society on April 27. The society was founded in 1922 and today has more than 175,000 lifetime members in more than 430 chapters throughout the United States. Eastern's Eta Omega Chapter at Eastern was founded in 1997.

Eastern Connecticut State University recognized the academic achievements of African, Latino, Asian and Native American students on May 5 during its sixth annual Inclusive Excellence Awards ceremony. Award were given out and more than 200 students were recognized for achieving GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

Two soccer players from Eastern Connecticut State University received the Holly E. Zimmerman Memorial Award this spring 2018 semester. The award was established in memory of the late Holly Zimmerman, and highlights students who make significant contributions to Eastern on and off the field.

A cohort of high-achieving psychology students from Eastern Connecticut State University were honored at the annual Psychology Honors Night and Psi Chi Induction Ceremony on April 23.

The English Department at Eastern Connecticut State University hosted English Night on May 1. The event featured an awards ceremony and five student presentations from graduating seniors.

A group of mathematics students at Eastern Connecticut State University was inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME), the national honor society for mathematics, on April 20.

A group of Eastern students majoring in computer science and business information systems was inducted into Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the national honor society for the computing and information disciplines, on April 25.

On April 23, a group of Political Science students were inducted into Alpha Beta Gamma, Eastern Connecticut State University's chapter of the national honor society for political science, Pi Sigma Alpha. The society recognizes the most promising students in the discipline.

The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) at Eastern Connecticut State University inducted new students into the Alpha Upsilon Chi (AUC) honor society on April 19.

Four aspiring teachers from Eastern Connecticut State University's Education Department were recognized at the Education Unit Awards Ceremony on April 21.

In March, Eastern Connecticut State University Environmental Earth Science (EES) faculty and students attended the Geological Society of America (GSA) Northeastern Section Annual Meeting in Burlington, VT.

More than 1,000 Eastern Connecticut State University students volunteered more than 17,000 hours in the Windham area in the past academic year. On April 19, these students-and the projects and community partners they represent-were honored at the annual Service Expo and Awards, sponsored by Eastern's Center for Community Engagement.

The Communication Department at Eastern Connecticut State University held its annual Celebration of Excellence on April 19. During the event, students were inducted into the communication honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, and awards were given for excellence in different areas of the communication field.

The Creative Writing Club at Eastern Connecticut State University published its annual literary journal, "Eastern Exposure," this spring. The student-produced journal showcases student writers and artists.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Freddy Cruz was among the honorees at Eastern's 2018 Cesar Chavez Distinguised Service Awards ceremony on April 18.

On April 17, Eastern Connecticut State University student Tess Candler '18 of Ledyard presented her research poster at Posters on the Hill in Washington, DC. The highly selective academic research conference is held each spring and is hosted by the Council on Undergraduate Research. Approximately 60 students out of a pool of 600 nationwide applicants are selected to present their research posters at the annual event.

The Economics Department at Eastern Connecticut State University inducted 15 students into the Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) international economics honor society this April.

Fourteen student athletes from Eastern Connecticut State University received Little East Conference (LEC) awards in late March and April. The students represent six different teams and included three repeat winners.

The 30th annual Henry Barnard Awards Banquet, held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT, recognized 12 outstanding undergraduates from Connecticut's four state universities - Central, Eastern, Southern and Western.

Displays of research and creativity filled the Student Center at Eastern Connecticut State University on April 13 for the annual CREATE conference. CREATE stands for "Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern," and is the University's premier undergraduate conference of the academic year.

A record-breaking 41 Eastern Connecticut State University students presented their research at the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) from April 4-7 at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Liselotte Hammer '18 recently presented her cross-cultural research study "Outsiders on a US Campus: A Qualitative Study of Scandinavian Students and Their Experiences" at the annual Eastern Sociological Society in Baltimore, MD, this past March.

Eastern Connecticut State University student Taryn McCabe '18 of East Hampton was named the recipient of the History Department's Victoria Leigh Soto Memorial Fund Scholarship on April 5, at the department's Alpha Mu Alpha induction ceremony. Alpha Mu Alpha is Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history. The scholarship was created in honor of Eastern Connecticut State University alumna Victoria Leigh Soto '08, an elementary school teacher, who lost her life protecting her first-grade students at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, on Dec. 14, 2012.

Themes of youth, love and enlightenment were on display in Eastern Connecticut State University's latest theatrical production, "Awakenings: 'Youth' by Thornton Wilder and 'Chitra' by Rabindranath Tagore." From April 5-8, the two one-act plays transformed Eastern's DelMonte Bernstein Studio Theatre into a tropical island and then into a lush Hindu dreamscape.

This year, students at Eastern Connecticut State University have shown their community dedication through efforts made with Jumpstart -- a national organization hosted by the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) that promotes quality early learning for all children and provides various types of programming for preschool students from under-resourced communities.
